Women We Love: 7 Questions with Kim Alexis Newton

Kim Alexis Newton is an absolute force and someone I’m excited to introduce to you all. As a fellow corporate gal, she cut her teeth in the boardroom working at Hallmark for two decades. She has been recognized multiple times as a top African American in corporate America. After going off on her own in 2019, Kim started a business with a modern approach to quilting (her first quilt hangs on Oprah's wall!). She also invests in female-led businesses and her community service is focused on issues that advance women, girls, and the arts.

I caught up with Kim recently to get to know her in 7 questions!

1. What time do you wake up?

5:30-6am (it was 4:30-5am pre-COVID!)

2. Do you have a daily ritual you can’t live without?

I have fresh flowers in the rooms I spend most of my time. Burning a candle with one of my favorite scents is something I do daily - it makes me feel great.

3. What are you working on right now that you’re excited about?

A virtual workshop for my new book The Intentional Pause™ Dream Workbook. It’s a beautiful experience to motivate more women to pause and listen to their desires. The other is a set of designs for my new line of gift quilts! They have bold designs and inspiring messages to be a daily warming reminder of how much someone is thought of, cared for and loved.

4. Do you have a productivity hack that you swear by?

I started to say no to more things and it completely changed my productivity. I say yes to things that support my priorities.

5. What do you love about your career?

I love that it is not just one thing. I love that I am advising startups, nurturing my own business, doing my artwork, sharing my book and sitting on boards.

6. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Resist the familiar.  I have grown so much since I committed to those 3 words!

7. What could you never give up?

My passions. I feel like for so many years I was doing what I was supposed to do and putting my desires on hold. I am now pursuing those things that I am most passionate about and it is the most fulfilling!
