Women We Love: 7 Questions with Allison Trowbridge

Allison Trowbridge is an entrepreneur, author, podcast host, and lover of all things books. I’m privileged to be working with her as an investor and board member of her company, Copper. She is smart, caring, intentional, and an all-around lovely human.

I caught up with Allison recently so that you can get to know her in 7 questions!

1. What time do you wake up?

7am.

2. Do you have a daily ritual that you can't live without?

Walking! Every morning, evening, and a few times throughout the day I take my little rescue dog, Ivy, for a walk around the neighborhood. This has been the best for thinking time and combating Zoom fatigue during conference calls. It's also been a game-changer when it comes to managing stress. I recently learned that repetitive movement, like walking, actually regulates our mental state and helps us process emotions. Thank goodness for dogs!

3. What are you working on right now that you're excited about?

I'm building a company called Copper to connect authors and readers around books. Every social platform today has centered around helping a creator group reach their audience, yet authors remain one of the last under-served groups in the creator economy. We're building a platform to help authors and aspiring authors connect with readers while making books a more social experience.

4. Do you have a productivity hack that you swear by?

Create focused time for deep work. Running a company is full of distractions, constant communication, and rapid decision-making. I've learned how important it is to carve out times where I can focus on deep work like writing, product strategy, or revenue models. Our team is currently reading "Deep Work" by Cal Newport to explore this topic even further. For me, this focused work is often done best late at night or early in the morning -- whenever the world is quiet.

5. What do you love about your career?

I love identifying pain-points in my own life and then creating products to solve those problems for others who've experienced them. My book, "Twenty-Two," is the mentorship book I wished I'd had when I was graduating from college. Copper, similarly, is the platform I wish had existed when I was a new author launching a book!

6. What's the best advice you've ever been given?

When you don't know what to do, just do the next right thing. Building a company is a long, complex, often overwhelming journey with limitless unknowns. Rather than trying to anticipate all the problems you'll face, focus on doing the next right thing right in front of you.

7. What could you NEVER give up?

Coffee! I just love it a latte.
